This is a song I just wrote - it is a song about how living small is no life at all, and asking "What would it take to spread our wings and fly?" I think that most of us can relate to the lyrics at some point in our lives . . . .
Spent all his life dreaming
Of that one big break
Spent all that time yearning
He knew it would take
His fearless attention
And power and skill
He spends his days dreaming
And he always will
He’s standing on the edge
Gettin’ ready to fly
There’s no looking back
There’s only clear sky
He’s made his decision
If he wants to be free
He can never grow a wishbone
Where a backbone ought to be
Spent all her life waiting
For them to open the door
To make her life better
Pick her up off the floor
The cheque’s in the mail
There’s no cigarettes
The job in the diner
It’s all she can get
Now she’s standing on the edge
Gettin’ ready to fly
There’s no looking back
There’s only clear sky
She’s made her decision
If she wants to be free
She can never grow a wishbone
Where a backbone ought to be
I’ve heard it, I’ve seen it
It’s been wrapped in my life
I’ve been its servant
I’ve been its wife
I’m tired of wishing
And breaking instead
It’s time to clean up here
And leave this dark bed
Now I’m standing on the edge
Gettin’ ready to fly
There’s no looking back
No tears in these eyes
I’ve made my decision
I want to be free
I’ll never grow a wishbone
Where a backbone ought to be
