How many times have you heard someone say or said yourself. “How can God allow such horrible things to take place in the world? Children starving, rampant disease, poisoned food, contaminated air, toxic water, environmental devastation, WAR! How can God allow “evil” people to prosper and be blessed while innocents suffer?” I know I have asked myself and said these things aloud more times than I care to count, but it came to me in a moment of clarity that there is a whole bunch of wrongheaded rationalizing and delusion to these questions and this thinking. First let’s address the big one, that God is somehow responsible for these horrific Life decimating things. Whether you believe in God or not God has nothing to do and never has had anything to do with the state of man’s affairs. It is simple cause and effect, Karma if you choose. God or not God has never asked us to let a child starve, destroy our habitat, start a war. We allow and do these things to ourselves by our own choosing. I know what you’re thinking. “NOT ME” it’s the government, the wealthy, the corporations. This leads us to our second bit of wrongheadedness, which is that, God somehow blesses and allows too prosper those who are “evil”. Let’s think about that for a second. Are they truly prospering and blessed? Do they not live on the same planet they are destroying, eating the same toxic food, quenching their thirst with the same poisoned water? Are their souls and minds any less contaminated by the heinous, barbaric and violent act of war? Do their children’s, children’s children having anymore hope of a sustainable future than ours? The answer is that their false wealth and illusions of power and control tell them they are apart, above, but the truth is they are not prospering and they are not blessed and our home’s destruction is just as much their destruction, as ours. Think about it, who are THEY really? They ARE us and WE as collective are complicit in every act of self-destructive behavior we blame them for perpetrating. They don’t do it in vacuum. We chop the wood, to fuel their furnaces of our frivolities and imminent extinction. We gobble mouths full, bellies fat, throwing away billions upon billions of pounds of perfectly good food, while we cry and watch the kindly man on the boob tube asking for quarter a day to feed the beautiful starving children in some far off distant land. We pour our household toxins - we purchased and they make - down our drains polluting our waters, while screaming for THEM to stop dumping chemicals into our lakes, rivers and oceans. We drive millions upon millions of cars - we buy that they build - poisoning our air, heating our climate. We rush to the store for latest prepackaged pesticide laden food we now call nourishment -we buy and they manufacture. We send our sons and daughters, sisters and brothers off to fight and die in wars against enemies we don’t even know, but hate for profit motives and made up ever changing borders - we buy into and they sanction. So next time you ask God, “WHY?” don’t be surprised if she answers back, “Because Karma’s a bitch!” The truth to all this is if WE want to change to world it is up to us to stop doing, stop being NOW, TODAY, what have been doing and being for much of our time as a species on this planet. It’s time we take responsibility for our fear based illusion of an existence and accept that only through the truth of unconditional Love of all Life can we save ourselves. It’s time to stop blaming God, no God, them; and blame ourselves. We are the ones sharpening and wielding the sword that is killing hope! We are the ones listening and believing the lies, while faith in future dies!
